During september 2023, we completed the field work of the Parablechnum grant with an unforgettable visit to Bolivia. Mario, Sonia, Guillermo and I were hosted by the LPB herbarium and we are extremely grateful to its director, Dr. Carla Maldonado, and our fellow botanists Rosember Hurtado, Modesto Zárate, Daire Lafuente, Jaime Lazarte, and Gabriel Lara.

Apacheta Summit, La Paz. About 4600 m over sea level

During about 20 days we collected fern and bryophyte specimens from montane cloud forests in La Paz and Cochabamba regions, some of the most diverse forests in terms of plant diversity in the whole planet, and a true haven for flagellate plants.

“The death road”

The campaign was very successful and the materials were deposited in the National Herbarium of Bolivia. The export permits are being processed and we expect to receive the duplicates soon to begin DNA extraction and library preparation. Thank you again to all the wonderful people who made this possible!
